Fact of the Day: California Produce

Despite California having the highest output of any U.S. state in agriculture, the sector is only about 1.5% of California's economy.

  1. What is the meaning of the song Strawberry Fields?
Strawberry Fields Forever. "Strawberry Fields Forever" is a song by the English rock band the Beatles. It was released in February 1967 as a double A-side single with "Penny Lane". The song was written by John Lennon but credited to the Lennon–McCartney songwriting partnership.

Is Strawberry Fields a real place?
Yes, Strawberry Field is a real place: it's an orphanage in Liverpool, England, specifically in the suburb Woolton. It is not the home itself, which Lennon never attended, but the surrounding area, on which the song dwells. Lennon's actual childhood home was 251 Menlove Avenue, only a short distance away.

  6. The first time I ever went to California, I drove from Reno across the state...I was shocked at the produce in the fields. I had always thought of California as glamour(L.A./Hollywood),wine (Napa Valley), and forests, not farms. Love Willie's comment. :) Blessings to you Adam, xoxo, Susie

  7. A tiny percentage, yes, but our state provides more than a third of fresh vegetables and two-thirds of fruits and nuts to the rest of the country. Agriculture is still one of the largest industries in CA that contributes to us being the fifth largest economy in the world. Yup, I'm glad to live here. :-)

  9. Those strawberries look really good.
When strawberries are out of season here ( Australia) and I would think that is for all strawberry producing countries in the Southern Hemisphere, we get our IMPORTED strawberries from California. However to protect Aussie farmers all imported fruits etc MUST BE MARKED with country of ORIGIN.
Anyhow strangely with our devastating present drought conditions,
strawberries are in massive supply here and are unbelievably cheap.
Virtually a strawberry lover's food paradise!
