Fact of the Day: Original California

The name California originally applied to the Baja California peninsula of present day Mexico. It eventually extended to present-day California and other parts of the present-day Southwest United States.

Someone once told me that California was named after a warrior queen named Califia.

That's often the case with states. Ohio, where I'm from, was originally just a river.
