Photo: The Demise of Sears in Spartanburg

Once a titan in the retail industry, Sears has been much of a joke in recent years. The Spartanburg Sears managed to stay around for quite some time while many others in the country shut their doors for good. Eventually the inevitable came and now it is finally gone. Daisy is a little upset, she did like Sears for what the little we would get there.

  1. I remember going to Sears when I was younger, but there's been no reason to for years now.

  2. When I was younger I counted Sears as one of the more dependable stores to buy quality stuff.

  3. I liked looking through the gigantic Sears catalog they had many years ago.

  4. Adam, It seems sad to me for the stores of childhood to be closing. They are tied in with K-mart stores. Some of them have closed here in Indiana also, both Sears and Kmart. I used to buy appliances at Sears. You are young, so you may not know that the Kenmore brands of Sears used to last a long, long time. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

    1. Our Kmart closed when I was in 9th grade. I do know that people loved Kenmore and Craftsman, at least what they used to be. Craftsman isn't really a company anymore, just a division of Black/Decker Stanley tools

  5. So many stores that we grew up with have been closing. Toys R Us, Kroger, Sears, Rite Aid to name a few, and the smaller shops in our neighborhood are closing too. I just wonder what it will be like 20 years from now. Hugs...RO

  6. Ours is still open, but barely hanging on. My husband shops there often for tools, but that's pretty much it. Quality has gone downhill and the customer service is piss poor. I won't be surprised when they announce they are closing here too. I expect JC Penny will soon follow, as their items are overpriced and their customer service sucks also.

  7. It seems world-wide that favourite stores are closing … such a shame.

    All the best Jan
