King Henry II's oldest known child was an illegitimate son named Geoffrey. Due to the King's legitimate children rebelling against him several times, Geofrrey was the only son present with the king when he died. When his half-brother became King Richard I, he nominated him for a high-ranking role in the Catholic Church, probably to eliminate him from coveting the throne. He quarreled with both Richard and their brother King John. He was eventually exiled after one final dispute with John and died in France.
interesting history.

ReplyDeleteInteresting.
ReplyDeleteFamily dysfunction is always the best when it's the royals
ReplyDeleteSo much drama with these people.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that I am an ordinary person living now! Visiting historical sites in England and Italy really drove home to me the wealth and power of royalty and the R. C. church!
ReplyDeleteSure a dramafest there
