Fact of the Day: Roman Police

The English word police (going through French before English) comes from the Latin word politia which means "citizenship" or "government".

We saw lots of Roman Police in Italy. Police doesn't seem too far removed from government or citizen. I've forgotten so much of the Latin I studied so many years ago. I rely on Terry now to translate many Latin terms. Have a good one, my curious friend!

Interesting. Makes sense, an authoritarian government would be a police state.
