Fact of the Day: American Health Tourists

More than a million Americans leave the United States each year to get healthcare in other countries. The vast majority of these cases is due to lack of affordability.

As a matter of fact our tour leader from Hawaii actually stayed in South Korea to get an implant done because it would be cheaper. I was really surprised. I had a friend get a special procedure done to fight breast cancer in Mexico. It’s horrible that health care in America is out of reach of so many people.

Not very surprising considering the cost

It is the same in Canada

For dental surgery and procedures not covered in our government health plan.

It's too bad that people can't get affordable healthcare. Here in Canada, dental and eye care is not covered. There are Canadians that actually go to Cuba to get their eyes fixed (laser treatments) because it's a fraction of the cost. When we were in Cuba in 2015, we noticed that hardly anyone wears glasses. Their eye care is free, so everyone who needs to gets the treatments done at no cost.

Excellent health services are available in other parts of the world. It's abhorrent to me that I live in such a wealthy country where so many cannot access good and affordable health care. And why is it that we spend so much yet are behind other developed countries in health care outcomes? If you're rich you get the best care in the world. If you're ordinary, you're often SOL.

The majority of those places probably have nationalized medicine, which is considerably less expensive, so it's no wonder.

It is disgraceful the Health care in the USA!
We have excellent access her in Australia.

Anyhow your "great dictator" ( more bizarre by the minute than the Charlie Chaplin version) couldn't give a damn about health to the needy and less fortunate in the so-called "Make America Great Again" world.
Still he does have a tax-payer funded aircraft to fly him and his cronies off to his weekend golf resorts.
In any other country this would result is riots!

When I get a colonoscopy in Chicago, they bill my insurance $35,000 (when I get it local, it's about $5000). I had 3 last year. My biologics are $5000 every 8 weeks. I usually hit my $5000 deductible the first month of January, so most of that is covered from February on. It makes me sick to think that if I didn't have good insurance, I'd probably be dead by now. It's disgusting how much our healthcare costs. My friend in Serbia says his mom only pays about $200 for her scopes.
