Fact of the Day: Sikorsky Helicopter

While not the first helicopter, the Sikorsky R-4 (Hoverfly for the British) was the first mass produced helicopter. They were built mainly for the U.S. and U.K. military during World War II.

I didn't know that but I did know of the helicopter because my husband loves to tell me about planes, jets and helicopters.

I flew in a helicopter for the first time on our trip to Alaska. It was one of the most awesome things I've ever done....loved it

I didn't know they had helicopters during World War II. The Korean War, yes, as the aircraft was prominently featured on MASH.

I really like helicopters too. I remember hearing about the Hoverfly long before the Sikorsky ~ probably because I was Canadian.
