Fact of the Day: Scottish Toaster

While humans toasted bread long before electricity was in homes, the first electric toaster was invented by Alan MacMasters in Scotland in the year 1893.

Interesting. I thought maybe they were invented 20 years later, when electricity in the home was more commonplace.

We used the oven rack and opened one stove lid on the old wood cook stove. It made great toast. Oh ya, we had home made bread.

When I was a penniless university student who did not own a toaster, I toasted bread on a wire coat hanger over a red hot element on the stove.
