Things I Like: Soccer Ball (Super Smash Bros. Ultimate)

The soccer ball has been an item since Brawl, while far from my favorite, it's a good one. It's actually based on the soccer balls from Super Mario Strikers.

Justice League: Throne of Atlantis (2015 Film) Review

I've been a fan of most animated films based on DC comics, but I had my doubts on Throne of Atlantis. I had mistrust since I saw the poster and read the premise. Nobody seemed to like it that much either. But I've been meaning to see it for years now, and I finally had the chance to knock this one out.

Photo: Dollywood's Country Crossroads Show

We saw this often as we passed by the area on our way to other rides. It's just three men and three women dressed all "cowboy/cowgirl" singing country music and some other mixes of music. Not a big fan of that, but on the 2nd day my mother said she wanted to see some shows (most of the shows that are part of Dollywood don't perform often on weekdays) and we sat down for a little bit. Seating is terrible, all the people take up the benches and they don't have good manners about making sure others can sit down. Then my mother got bored and left.

Fact of the Day: Locust Lobster

The modern English word for the lobster animals came from the Old English lopustre. The Old English name came from the Latin word locusta, which meant locusts and also crustaceans.

Things I Hate: Wario (Super Smash Bros. Ultimate)

Wario has been in the series since Brawl, but I've never liked him much. They haven't made him better in Ultimate, that's for sure.

Wonder Woman (2009 Film) Review

Wonder Woman is one of DC's most beloved characters, but I never watched much of her besides her roles in the Justice League and whatnot. I really fell in-love with the character with the recent portrayal by Gal Gadot in the DCEU. About a decade before Gal Gadot held the lasso of truth, DC comics made this animated film which is one of their straight-to-video line. Most of the series of these DC films are pretty good, and I decided to catch up with their 2009 incarnation of Wonder Woman.

Photos: Dollywood's Village Carousel

The old merry-go-round is a ride that kind of bores me, but I always ride it at least once. Dollywood's merry-go-round is about the same as any other theme park's or carnival's ride. Most of the seats are horses but one was a dragon.

Fact of the Day: Nostradamus Jam

Nostradamus was well known for his "psychic predictions" but among other things, he actually made jams and jellies, and people still today borrow from his recipes.

Things I Like: Theon Greyjoy (Game of Thrones)

Theon Greyjoy was a character I hated for most of the series, but he eventually won my affection. At the start of the series, he's a ward of Eddard Stark, spending most of his life in Winterfell. In truth, he's a political hostage. His father had rebelled in a great war against Robert Baratheon and lost. Theon was kept by the Starks to ensure Balon stayed loyal to the Crown.

Photos: Dollywood's Dizzy Disk

When I saw the ride I was interested but this was near the end of our time at the country fair section of Dollywood. While it never seemed to go that high or that fast, and most important to me, it wasn't going upside down, I didn't have a good feeling about getting on it.

Fact of the Day: Red M&Ms

For about a decade, red colored M&Ms were no longer made from the 1970's to most of the 1980's. They were originally replaced by the orange color before returning in 1987. This was due to a health scare of a certain red food dye that proved to be harmful.

Things I Like: Lyanna Mormont (Game of Thrones)

Lyanna Mormont was originally going to be a one-time character, but her actress was so good they expanded her plot. She was one of my favorite characters on the show. She's the Lady of Bear Island, despite being a child. She's also Ser Jorah Mormont's cousin. While a kid, she is very strong and confident. Jon Snow asks her for help against the Boltons, as he remembered the reply she had wrote to Stannis Baratheon.

Photos: Dollywood's Demolition Derby Bumper Cars

One of the next rides on our trip to Dollywood was the Demolition Derby, which is simply bumper cars. I've always liked bumper cars, so this was a given.

Hulk (2003 Film) Review

2003's Hulk film isn't the first major production of Hulk from Marvel Comics, but it was the first major movie for the not-so-jolly green giant. It came during an time where movies like X-Men and Spider-Man made comic book movies not only just good, but a proven formula for excellence...if the film makers don't slip up. Critics kind of liked this one, but fans hated it for the most part. I had skipped it and ignored it for years, but it was about time I gave it a chance.

Fact of the Day: Drinker's Dictionary

Benjamin Franklin once wrote a long list of phrases to being drunk known as the Drinker's Dictionary. Franklin personally saw alcohol more for its "evil" and explained words that masked the darker side of drinking.

Things I Like: Ser Jorah Mormont (Game of Thrones)

While not even close to being a "great lord" or a king, Jorah Mormont was one of the most important characters and beloved by most. Before the series began, Jorah was a knight and Lord of Bear Island. He had married a beautiful woman but she wanted an expensive life. Jorah rounded up poachers on his land and put them into slavery, in an effort to keep enough gold to for his wife to be happy. He exiles himself before Ned Stark found him. He soon meets the Targaryen siblings, claiming he wanted to see Prince Viserys on the throne. He was working with Lord Varys, helping the spymaster inform King Robert Baratheon of what was happening in exchange for a royal pardon.

Photos: Dollywood's Lemon Twist Teacup Ride

I had seen these rides for years, but we don't have on at Carowinds or at the local fairs. It's not exactly a thrilling ride, but I always wanted to ride the tea cups once. While I don't think Disney created the tea cups thing, their incarnation probably made Dollywood's big wigs want one for their park too.

Once Upon a Time (TV Series) Season 6 Review

Once Upon a Time had become one of my favorite shows years ago, but I will admit, it had been running out of steam. While the first four seasons were great, the story-lines became very redundant with so much deja vu that even the shows' writers must of had a hard time keeping up to try to seal up any plot holes that may form. But I try to stick with a series until its end, and Daisy and I only have one season left to go on this one.

Fact of the Day: Royal Pomeranian

Pomeranian dogs were partly made popular due to Queen Victoria of Great Britain adopting one during her reign.

Super Mario Party (Nintendo Switch) Review

The Mario Party series has been a long-running spin-off since the N64 games. I haven't played much in the series, a little bit of Mario Party 5 but mostly Mario Party 4. I figured I'd give this one a try in this era of online gaming. As all my experience with Mario Party had been mostly single-player, and CPU battles aren't the same.

Favorite Quotes: Donald Trump is Not the Champion of the Working Class

"Does anyone really believe that a guy (Donald Trump) who’s spent his 70 years on this Earth showing no regard for working people is suddenly going to be your champion?"

-President Barack Obama

I love this quote from our last real President of the United States. It's amazing how so many dirt poor Republicans, honestly think Donald Trump is going to make their lives better. Even many of them would agree that America is under the control of corrupt billionaires and millionaires who couldn't care about them. Unfortunately, the average Republican is far too dumb to realize that voting for corrupt billionaires and millionaires into office is a terrible idea, not a good one.

Photos: Dollywood's Scrambler Fair Ride

This ride used to terrify me as a kid, but I always like going on one. Nearly every theme park and carnival has one of these.

Fact of the Day: Richard

The given name Richard is combination of two Germanic words meaning "ruler/king" and "strong/brave" in modern English.

Things I Like: The Great King Bowser (Yoshi's Crafted World)

In the last moments of the game, Kamek steals all the dream gems and makes a wish, for his master Baby Bowser to get a giant robot.

Photo: Dollywood's Amazing Flying Elephants

This was one of the first rides we got on at Dollywood. I knew exactly what this ride was trying to imitate, Disney's Dumbo ride. While I assume the two work the same, I really liked this one. Your elephant stays on the ground level until you press a button to raise it. You release the button to lower it. You get a pretty good view of the area when your elephants is at its highest peak.

Creed II (2018 Film) Review

By the end of the 1990's, almost everyone thought the Rocky film series had died with the ill-fated Rocky V. But interesting enough, we got Rocky Balboa in the late 2000's and Creed a few years ago. Creed was a success, so Creed II seem inevitable. Though I don't like forced-sequels most of the time, but when I heard of the premise, I was intrigued.

Fact of the Day: Belgian Malinois

While German shepards are common dogs in the police and military, the Belgian Malinois has overtaken them by popularity. As they are a little smaller, more agile, have a strong work ethic, and have fewer health problems.

Things I Like: Halberd (Super Smash Bros. Ultimate)

Appearing in every game in the series since Brawl, I was happy to see Halberd return. It's from Kirby Super Star in a mini-game where Meta-Knight tries to use a ship to take over Dreamland.

Photos: Dollywood's Shooting Star Drop Tower

We ended up in the "Carnival fair" part of Dollywood first which is fine by me. I don't like heights (so some rides I do not ride) and almost nothing in these areas of theme parks are that tall. This is a "drop tower" ride but more for kids. Dollywood has a much taller drop tower, and you would never see me on that. That ride is 230 feet tall (70 meters) while Shooting Star is only 30 feet tall.

Fact of the Day: Japanese Battleship Nagato

By the end of World War II, Japan's navy was almost wiped out. Only one Japanese naval battleship, the Nagato survived.

Things I Like: Unira (Super Smash Bros. Ultimate)

It's been a favorite of mine since Brawl. This item is a trap of spikes.

Photos: First Moments in Dollywood

This would be our first time to Dollywood, and I've heard good things all of my life. The only theme park we go to is Carowinds in Charlotte, North Carolina. Carowinds is pretty well designed, so no matter where you park, you can get to an entrance by walking. Dollywood's parking lot is huge, and we had to take their complimentary trolley bus.

Fact of the Day: Thor's Sacred Bird

In Norse mythology, it was believed that robin birds were sacred to the God Thor and an official bird of the storm-clouds.

Things I Like: Zero Suit Samus (Super Smash Bros. Ultimate)

While not new, Zero Suit Samus is back again in Smash Bros. The suit comes from Metroid: Zero Mission, and originally in the Smash Bros. series it was what happened to Samus after she used the Zero Laser.

Photos: McDonald's Pigeon Forge Tennessee

The first thing we did was have lunch at McDonald's when we got to Tennessee, but we meant to have breakfast but we were delayed. I originally wanted Dollywood to be our first thing, but my mother convinced me early that morning that we should do something else on that Monday and let Dollywood be on Tuesday. Eating here gave us a chance to sit down and plan our next move.

Fact of the Day: The Happy Lizzie Borden

While most figure Lizzie Borden had been the one who murdered her parents, she was tried in court, but the jury thought she was not guilty. After her release from court, she told the press that she was "the happiest woman in the world."

Things I Like: Beric Dondarrion (Game of Thrones)

While we technically see him first in the first season, his importance is so minor that most would forget him. The Hand of the King Lord Eddard Stark calls Beric to lead a force of men to bring the King's justice to The Mountain who had been committing so many horrors in the Riverlands.

Photos: Spring Fling Carnival Shooting Game

Spartanburg's Spring Fling is more festival than carnival, and this was one of the very very few games that is straight up carnival. I just had enough left in my pocket for my Little Brother Mr. B to try his luck.

Fact of the Day: Papyrus Paper

The first known paper is papyrus, made from the papyrus plant. It had been used since ancient Egypt. It also is the origin of the English word paper.

Things I Like: Melisandre (Game of Thrones)

Melisandre was one of my favorite characters on Game of Thrones, partly due to my crush on her as well. For most of the series, we see her as a servant of the Lord of Light, who believes Stannis Baratheon is the chosen one to kill the White Walkers and the Night King.

The Little Mermaid (2018 Film) Review

When my eyes first came across this, I was a little surprised. In a new era of live-action Disney movies, you'd think I would have noticed a Little Mermaid movie being announced. Well, it's not a Disney movie, but I suppose they were hoping for people to think it was. The only reason I gave this film a chance was because of Poppy Drayton. While a very lesser-known actress, I liked her a lot as Princess Amberle in the Shannara Chronicles TV series.

Photos: Water Ball Ride Spartanburg Spring Fling

While not very orb shaped, my Little Brother Mr. B wanted to ride this one when he saw it.

Game of Thrones (TV Series) Season 8 Review

I had once considered The Simpsons to be my favorite show of all time. I never thought it would be overthrown, but sure enough, Game of Thrones easily knocked the funny Fox family down in my heart. I didn't start the series until it was about half-way done, which was good in a way. My cousin Danielle just started the series about a month ago, and now she doesn't have to wait at all for a cliffhanger to resolve. When we last saw everyone in Westeros, things weren't looking so happy for those among the living.

Fact of the Day: Aaron

While there is an Aaron in the Bible (brother of Moses), the name seems to predate the Abrahamic tales. The name probably derived from the Ancient Egyptian words aha rw meaning "warrior lion".

Things I Like: Stannis Baratheon (Game of Thrones)

We first see Stannis in the second season though he is mentioned in the first. He's King Robert's younger brother, and with Cersei's children really inbred bastards, he's the rightful king by the Baratheon claim to the Iron Throne. Before the War of the Five Kings, he was Lord of Dragonstone. He was sent by his brother to murder the last Targaryens on Dragonstone but they fled in time. So Robert made him Lord of Dragonstone instead, which he thought was an insult, as Lord of the Stormlands was much better, which Robert gave to Renly, his baby brother.

Photos: Motorcycles at Spartanburg Spring Fling

They had a showing of motorcycles at the Spring Fling festival we went to. We happened to run into my cousin and her family while looking at them. Her son was very upset that they missed the car show which was apparently the day before. Apparently motorcycles aren't "cool enough" or something.

Fact of the Day; Chinese Cuju Soccer

While soccer would be later "invented", Cuju was a extremely similar game invented during the Han Dynasty of China. The word Cuju translates to "kick ball" in modern English.

Things I Like: Mr. Geary (Yoshi's Crafted World)

One of the last bosses of the game, Mr. Geary is created when Kamek sees Yoshi in the big factory place.

Ralph Breaks the Internet (2018 Film) Review

One of my favorite films of the early days of this decade was Wreck-It Ralph. Animated films take a long time to make a sequel, mainly because they want to make sure it doesn't flop before they make all the expensive animation again, and the studio usually wants to do a different project first. Ralph's 2nd movie shouldn't have taken about six years to come out, and for context some kid that watched it before he was a teenager, would have graduated high-school before the sequel came out. Myself, I have forgotten a decent bit of the plot of the original movie, though I still remember the gist of it and the characters.

Photo: Spartanburg Spring Fling Magician

At Spartanburg's Spring Fling festival, they had a magician guy doing tricks. They were pretty simple tricks though, and not impressive enough to wait too long in the hot sun for. I'll get sunburnt for David Copperfield.
