Fact of the Day: Napoleon Liberator of Poland

While Napoleon's invasion of Russia was more of a plot to undermine British interests in general, the French Emperor officially claimed it was to defend Poland from the threat of Russia. He named it the 2nd Polish War as a result, especially as he wanted to gain the favor of the native poles.
