Fact of the Day: Dark Mahogany

Mahogany is a popular wood that has a huge demand in the United States and Great Britain. Though it's estimated that 80-90% of what makes up American mahogany furniture/paneling/boats were illegally harvested from Peru.

Beautiful colour, and rare.

Peru? Did not know it came from that part of the world.

That's too bad. My understanding is full grown trees fight global warming by absorbing carbon dioxide.

It figures they were taken but my dad said that back in the 70’s and, he would know, as we owned a sawmill. It is a beautiful wood but I’m all for fake mahogany to keep the trees since they are rare.
