Things I Like: Hardhit Beetle (Zelda: Link's Awakening Nintendo Switch Remake)

The Hardhit Beetle is a boss in the Color Dungeon which was not in the original Link's Awakening, but in the DX remaster for Game Boy Color, so he shows up for the Nintendo Switch remake too.

The Mandalorian (TV Series) Season 1 Review

I remember when I was a kid, and the only Star Wars movies out were the original three Star Wars films. One of the characters that everyone raved about was Boba Fett which I never got the point of. I thought Disney+'s The Mandalorian was going to be about a Boba Fett who escaped from death after Return of the Jedi, but instead it's about a new guy named "Mando."

Maximum Force (Carolina Arcade Museum)

I don't think I played this one the last time we were at the Carolina Arcade Museum in Forest City, North Carolina. But I think I have played it back in the late 1990's, as I'm almost certain one of the local movie theaters had it near the lobby.

Fact of the Day: Woodrow

The first name Woodrow wasn't a popular given name until the rise of President Woodrow Wilson. He himself was named after his mother's maiden name.

Things I Like: Slime Eye (Link's Awakening Nintendo Switch Remake)

Slime Eye is one of the earlier bosses in the Nintendo Switch remake of The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening.

Joker (2019 Film) Review

To say Warner Bros has had some flops with the DCEU would be an understatement. But to my shock, they threw a curveball with a Batman movie without Batman and not in the DCEU at all. Warner Bros. made a bold move to base a sole movie on the Joker character alone and got Joaquin Phoenix to play him. I had my doubts at first, but sure enough Phoenix surprised everyone with role role, and he even won the Best Actor Oscar for it too.

Konami's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Carolina Arcade Museum)

Last time I didn't get to play this one at the Carolina Arcade Museum due to time and fatigue. I had played it in the past, which was years and years ago so it wasn't a huge deal.

Fact of the Day: Colonel

The military rank of colonel comes from the Italian word colonello meaning "a column of soldiers."

Things I Like: The Simpsons (Season 5)

Thanks to Disney+, I've been watching a lot of The Simpsons lately. Season five is still in the series' prime days.

Captain America and The Avengers (Carolina Arcade Museum)

This is one I wanted to play the last time we were at the Carolina Arcade Museum because Captain America and the Avengers sounds like such a cool arcade game.

Fact of the Day: Nuclear

The word nuclear refers to the nucleus of an atom.

Things I Like: Ariel (Once Upon a Time)

While she didn't have much time on the show, I liked this incarnation of Ariel, the Little Mermaid.

Marvel Super Heroes (Carolina Arcade Museum)

I was pleased to see Marvel Super Heroes while we were at the Carolina Arcade Museum in Forest City, NC. My brother and I had the game on PS1 but I don't think I had played the original arcade version.

Fact of the Day: Valentine

The name Valentine is taken from the Latin word valens meaning "strong and healthy."

Happy Valentines Day 2020

Happy Valentines to everyone out there. I hope you enjoy this holiday.

Things I Hate: Walsh/Wizard of Oz (Once Upon a Time)

He had a brief but somewhat memorable role in the Zelena arc of Once Upon a Time. At first we think he is Emma Swan's real boyfriend when she got made-up memories of a "normal life" in Boston.

Daytona USA 2 (Carolina Arcade Museum)

We didn't have time to play Daytona USA 2 last time we were at the Carolina Arcade Museum in Forest City, NC.
 But Daisy was excited.
It's a pretty popular NASCAR game from when Sega actually made mostly good video games.
During our race, I far outlapped Daisy. It was fun.

Fact of the Day: Hydraulic Empire

Many of the earliest civilizations on Earth were what historians call "hydraulic empires." As whoever controlled the major river(s) also had control of most of the land around it.

Things I Like: Genie (Link's Awakening Nintendo Switch Remake)

Genie was a decent boss, as he's the 2nd main one in the game. For some reason, Nintendo never used him before or after as a boss in the series.

Jet Spin Pinball (Carolina Arcade Museum)

Jet Spin pinball was one that wasn't there the last time we visited the Carolina Arcade Museum. This one was made in 1977, well before I was born.

Fact of the Day: Samantha

Samantha was a rare name until the 19th century, when author Marietta Holley wrote a character with the name and made it very popular afterward.

Things I Like: Moldorm (Link's Awakening Nintendo Switch Remake)

He was a boss in A Link to the Past and in the original Link's Awakening as well. He serves as the first boss in this remake too.

Big Brave Pinball Machine (Carolina Arcade Museum)

I don't think they had this one the last time we were at the Carolina Arcade Museum in Forest City, North Carolina. It was made in 1974 by Gottlieb. The "theme" was based on Native Americans, probably in the "classical western" fashion.

Fact of the Day: Water in Space

Since space is a vacuum, water will actually boil in it.

Things I Like: Byleth (Fire Emblem: Three Houses)

Byleth is the main character in the game, and for my journey I chose Byleth to be female instead of male.

Q*bert (Carolina Arcade Museum)

Q*bert is a classic video game I had never really played. They didn't have the machine last time we were at the Carolina Arcade Museum, but this time they did.

Fact of the Day: Lady Gaga Real Name

Lady Gaga's real name is Stefani Germanotta.

Things I Like: Edelgard (Fire Emblem: Three Houses)

I really liked Edelgard, as I assumed I would before I even played Fire Emblem: Three Houses. She was the house leader that called out to me the most.

Time Pilot (Carolina Arcade Museum)

I was fairly certain I missed this one the first time we went to the Carolina Arcade Museum. It's a game by Konami in 1982, which makes it one of their earliest game but certainly not the first.

Fact of the Day: Angkor Wat

Angkor Wat is the largest religious temple in the world. It is in Cambodia but it was built by the Khmer Empire which ruled most of Southeast Asia for centuries. It was originally a temple for Hinduism, but switch to Buddhism as the later kings became Buddhist instead of Hindu.

Things I Like: Lady Rhea (Fire Emblem: Three Houses)

She's certainly a juggernaut in the game, even though we don't see her in battle until near the end. She's the archbishop for the major church in the continent and the head of the academy school as well.

Nintendo's Popeye Arcade Game (Carolina Arcade Museum)

A few years before the NES and a little after Donkey Kong, Nintendo (and even Shigeru Miyamoto) worked on Popeye. I saw it last time we went to the Carolina Arcade Museum but it was broken. This time it was working. They have it in their gamer basement as I call it.

Fact of the Day: Saxophone

While saxophones do look like brass instruments, they are classified as a woodwind because the sound is made by an oscillating reed.

Things I Like: The Simpsons (Season 4)

Since Disney+ is the new home of the Simpsons, I've been catching up with some good memories. Like the earliest seasons, season 4 is at the series' prime.

Christmas Family Gathering 2019

I'm a lot late on this but this got lost in the jumble. Right before Christmas we did our event for my side of the family. There was dinner.

Fact of the Day: Khufu Pyramid

While historians ironically don't know much about the Egyptian pharaoh Khufu, they are pretty sure he was the Egyptian monarch behind the Great Pyramid of Giza.

Things I Like: Tinkerbell (Once Upon a Time)

While her story could have been better I liked this incarnation of Tinker Bell in Once Upon a Time.

R2D2 Trash Can at Carolina Arcade Museum (Forest City, NC)

I thought it was neat they had this R2D2 (Star Wars) as a trash can during our visit to the Carolina Arcade Museum in Forest City, North Carolina.

Fact of the Day: Manchester Man

The proper term for a person from England's very populous city of Manchester is Mancunian.

Things I Hate: Peter Pan/Malcolm (Once Upon a Time)

While I liked his story and season, he was a person I loved to hate. Having Peter Pan be a bad guy instead of a good one was a pretty neat twist.

Legend of Zelda Sword and Poster (Carolina Arcade Museum)

While Zelda is not a game for arcades, the Carolina Arcade Museum had this up on a wall. I thought the 8-bit inspired sword was rather nea

Fact of the Day: Santa Fe

While Santa Fe's (New Mexico) original name by the Spanish was quite long and was to honor Saint Francis of Assisi, it was shortened eventually to just Santa Fe. Which literally means "Holy Faith" in Spanish.

Things I Like: Shamir (Fire Emblem: Three Houses)

She was a cool character though I spent very little time interacting with her.

Computer Space Poster (Carolina Arcade Museum)

While they didn't have the machine there, they did have the poster at the Carolina Arcade Museum in Forest City, North Carolina. It was the first game by Atari and the first game really to be an "arcade game" though not the first video game ever.

Fact of the Day: Flamingo Bahamas

Since flamingos are very abundant in the Bahamas, they are their national bird.

Things I Like: Jeritza/Death Knight (Fire Emblem: Three Houses)

While I wasn't a big fan on his persoanlity, he was a decent character. While I didn't really see much of his backstory during my route of the game, he is the half-brother of Mercedes. After some family drama, he loses much memory of his original self and joins Edelgard's side.
